It is traditionally made from palm leaves harvested in parts of East Africa and then processed, twisted and dyed into a wide assortment of colors. Because this ribbon looks like grass or another natural plant product, it's great for simple living themed crafts.
For decorating, colored raffia ribbon can be used as ribbon or yarn. In sewing, it can be used as a cord, as stuffing, or even as a very thick embroidery thread. Raffia is durable and holds up even on craft projects like outdoor wreaths that come in contact with weather.
